A Walk

Light breeze sways trees
and drifts snowdrifts
it is unseasonably warm
for an unusually cold season
and I think
and you know
and that's the difference
between you and I
confidence in confidence
Silence on a snowshoed trail
(alonesty)
innocence in ignorance
I can stare at the clouded sky with clouded eyes
that pretend it isn't falling
that lack a certain de(a)[p]th perception
I think
and you know...
my feet crush this snow against the surface
compressing the space between the world and myself
so when I strip my feet of these steel-heeled boots
I can feel only cold, wet reality
(Numbing)
and then snowshoe on

(and I shall)
