On The Writing Process

A man wanted to build a kite
so he found the finest wood and cloth
and he spent hours considering and planning
and calculating
and then he carefully went about constructing his kite
slowly, slowly
meticulously
but upon finishing it
he saw only that the cloth had faded
and that the weather had warped the wood.

And so he decided to make another kite.
He gathered his supplies
and constructed a perfect replica of his original design
and though it had flaws, he wished to fly it.
so went on his roof every day to check the wind
but it was never quite right
'A kite of this caliber deserves stronger winds
that will do it justice!' he exclaimed.
And so he waited.
and waited.
checking the wind every day
and with each passing day it died a little
until the skies were calm.
and they stayed that way.

The man took his kite inside and stored it in his attic,
where he stared at it
and imagined how it would fly.

The moral of the story
is that kites are bullshit,
and I spend too much time making them
and not enough time flying them.

and so This kite may soar or stall
but it's better it fly
than not at all
