Rear Detail

Just more hardware for the rack
wires snaking down the back
cables patching port to port
fastened zip ties, cords too short

feedback hums as if to warn
overloaded circuits burn
but not a single meter filled
levels peaking, tweaking still

daisy-chained through iron rods
power strips the pale facades
a lot of plans and Figure A's
swaying helpless out of phase

scribbled notes and diagrams
plan turned mental diaphragm
overburdened shelves remain
vestigial blocks of faux wood-grain

Hard to find the outputs here
inputs lost to noise unclear
distorted, crushed to violent blare
damaged files beyond repair

pocket knife to sever lines
hard-strapped measures, desperate times
lighting flickers overhead
three more tape decks, power's dead

yanking cables out of sockets
jet-black vines dig in my pockets
reaching blind for nearby wall
leg is tangled, trip and fall

three-pronged serpent, wrapped around
neck and forehead, probing crown
we built this system, we run this game
we built this system, it can't be tamed

The cord constricts.
